Hookup was very poor and I should had lost it but Lady Luck was super kind :)

111cm, finally in the Barracuda Meter Club :) This one is big but just a pussy compared to the really big Great Barracudas.

My 1st Pond Fishing

Sat 12 Nov 11 10:48

I NEVER do pond fishing because fishing, like women and great food, is best 'Au Naturel' :>>:>>:>>

But I was 'forced' to do my 1st pond fishing. Pond is good for teaching children and letting them experience their 1st fishes and as you can see from the videos, he completely NAILED it!!

Of course lar, with such a great teacher like me how can he not ACE it??!! :>>:>>:>>

Thanks to Jason for the prompt service and Mr Handsome Thai for his assistance.

Great Barracuda!!!

Wed 26 Oct 11 21:24

There are many types of barracudas and the Great Barracuda is the biggest and meanest-looking if I'm not wrong.

Not my 1st barracud but my 1st Great Barracuda, and I saw everything when it went for my lure. :>>
It zoomed up from the depths and BAM!! This is just a baby, the really BIG ones can make you give up on entering the ocean.

You can i.d a Great by the black patches on the body and the unique tail shape.

Witness a big one (can't tell if it's a Great)chased after what I think is a small todak on the water surface. The sight was WOW!! The really BIG Greats have no problem slicing a human into pieces, it won't eat you but you will likely bleed to death.

Watching predation in the wild is very different from watching on YouTube or TV.

This fish made me very very happy and also very CRAZY for a few seconds :p I was CRAZY HAPPY!!

Before that a pack of Queens hit my lure and it was BOM BOM POW for a few secs, all these make all my hardwork worthwhile.

The queenie was released safely but the tenggiri died really fast. I wanted to da bao it anyway :)

Toothless Main Gear

Tue 11 Oct 11 06:40

I bought my 1st Daiwa Alphas R-edition in 2009 and it had served me well. There were a few times I didn't 'sayang' it well after saltwater trips and the teeths of the main gear had corroded and now broken off.

Ordered 2 replacements from Japan and now it's almost as good as new :>>

Btw I have 2 x Alphas R. I like this reel so much that I bought another one in 2010. It's a very nice reel for local ops but I think you will be stripped bare if you kenna a fucking big monster.

Todak's Skull

Thu 6 Oct 11 17:43

The last todak I caught wasn't released because I could not revive it so I cut off its head :>>

I want a BiG barracuda's head actually but a BiG todak's also not bad looking RIGHT?

The beak is very very hard so you have to be careful when landing the big ones, they can pierce you if well directed.

83cm Todak

Tue 27 Sep 11 15:39

Another fine fishing, courtesy of a pack of Todaks, they keep hitting my spoon again and again but the hook keep falling off as you know how hard their beaks are.

I only land 2 of them, a small one and a big one. The big one at 83cm should be my biggest todak to date. Pulled my line considerably but not anything terrifying like a GT will :>>

Also got a Queenie on foul hooking. As you know foul hooked fishes fight much harder and somemore this fellow never jump so initially I thought it was a GT or Grouper.

All were released but the big todak I couldn't revive.

Singapore is only this small, our fishing grounds are even smaller. Protect, not da-pao.

By admin • Albums: Uncategorized

Beautiful weather, calm sea, clean clear waters with polarised shades somemore and my catch leaping 3meters in front of me again & again!! For a few mins, SG fishing was better than any place on Earth :>>

An intense Queenie that fought really well!! A GT-wannabe, I'm so glad my CASTMAN braided line which was kept in cupboard for so long still hold up really well.

And yes there were ooh lala surface 'bombs' exploding in front of me, almost all within casting range :>>

Which is better? FISHING or SEX?? Sex is still slightly better, don't ask me why :D If you feel fishing is better then perhaps you are not doing it CORRECTLY ;D

By admin • Albums: Uncategorized

Was de-salting my gear at a freshwater ground, a popper to be more specific when suddenly BAMMZ! I did not even work the popper, just constant cranking it in. I saw the fish so did my cap cap but too bad during one of its headshakes it managed to shook off the trebles. Toman suspect 2kg plus.

Later I changed to fly and got a baby temensis around 9inch which I kept as pet fishes food.

As i was near giving up, I decided to give an old lure a try. This lure is si bey old, got it during my secondary school days and never got me any catch yet. I casted it a few times working it differently each time, a small fish suspect 1 feet toman did follow it but never took it. Then I decided to crank it fast and shallow when suddenly BAMMZ! Haha the BAMMZ was shiok but still can't compare to a kim's. I saw it flipped displaying vibrant orange fins, haha a temensis for sure and it's a biggie. It fought hard but not as hard as I thought a temensis this size would. Suspect it's a brooding pair as brooders are weak fighters. It wasn't easy to lip grip this fellow as fight was shorter and weaker than expected so I assume he still had plenty of energy left when I pulled him in.

This is my 2nd 'trophy' from a Designated Fishing Ground. DFG's biggies are always a bit more extra shiok :>> :>> :>>

The other day while fishing, I casted my small minnow, retrieve pretty fast and BAMM! Something wacked it but too bad no hookup. But SONG lei the way it wacked my lure.

Anyway got hit means got hope.

Then I change to one of my favorites, a popper that had produced but also disappoint. On one of my cast with very slow retrieve, very light pop and very long pause suddenly BOOMZ! SPLASH! Lure pulled into water, rod bent, line taut. Ho sey lar, a loud decisive wack so definitely a decent fish. Then it jump and then started to pull line. SONG lar very long never this feeling liao. A fighter on your line, rod twitching to contained the shock, line peeling from power dashes I don't know to describe but SHOIK.I striked hard in hope the trebles will sink deeper then attempted to switch on my cap cam with my cranking hand. I WANT A VIDEO OF THIS BEAUTY! Suddenly it jump whole body clearing the water WOW SWEE LAR but when it landed back into the water I can feel the line slack. OH NO I quickly crank back to find tension but it was gone.

I lost the fish. BEY TA HAN I let out a loud 'FUCK!'

All the while I keep switching lures, casting blindly randomly. One one occasion with a bigger popper I felt something grab my popper, suspect on the feather and then it let go. It was very fast. Again no hookup. Definitely not surface debris.

3 hits in one session. SONG! SONG! SONG! The line pulling and jumps were especially encouraging :>> :>> :>> and somehow u don't feel tired when there r hits

No pics no videos but here's one of my favourite Youtube videos.

Was fishing the other day, no bites no nothing not even a small one nor even a chase. Wow, did someone trawl up everything or drop a barrel or pesticide overnight? Very hopeless but you never say never in fishing.

Haha, after some preserverance they came or decided to bite. Have a 40mins happy hour of baby temensis (11inchers or less). It was fun no doubt, great for hookset and rod bending practice. I landed so many I lost count :D

If you are looking for a nice freshwater spot to lure, this is one of them but of course don't expect magic you still need to use your eyes & ears & plenty of luck. I landed my 2nd all-time best fighter here!

Melon from USR

Mon 17 May 10 13:28

:>> My 2nd all-time best fighter, 3/4 of line out! 1st still belongs to 7kg biggie Queen from eastern waters.

I never got any melons from Upper Seletar reservoir fishing ground before. I had seen them before, they are big, beautiful, magnificent & heart beat accelerators. Tried a few times unsuccessfully as they are very very elusive. But perseverance, a little luck and steady hands & mind, finally pays off.

My 14th melon, fished out from USR's designated fishing ground!

Take was just 4-5m out but run was so strong till 50-70m out, left with 1/4 line on spool.
I was seeing line I had never seen since line spool-in. Power was 2-3x any of my past melons. I had to constantly monitor my drag as I don't know if my neglected line and trebles can hold onto my 1st USR monster.

Hookup was not good at all, only 1 or 2 hooks holding on. Lure was outside mouth so I decided to make use of the USR's sloping shore to pull it ashore instead of lipgripping. As I pull 60% of its body out of the water, the treble came off!! 88| Luckily I was quick to stop it from sliding back by blocking with one of my feet. HENG LAR!!! :D

After this I got a temensis and another toman, all strong fighters.

Watermelon, my 13th

Tue 11 May 10 19:20

Salty fishes don't give face, ego bruised but lucky I still got the moves to spot & land a melon :D

Their takes were very very soft, not aggressive at all, couple of bite-n-release, no hookups. When there was a hookup, it threw hook 88| even though I had striked hard many times like a madman!

Usually with that many misses, they would very quickly swim into the deep and never be found again. Even if you find them again, they don't give a hoot anymore.

Heheh, I tracked em down and got one to bite again. Lucky!
Hookup wasn't good, high risk in fact but luck was on my side this time.

Itch relieved but not for long.

2nd Chance

Wed 17 Mar 10 23:56

Today's action happened maybe 10mins upon arrival. A lot of surface action, think I descended onto some toman orgy.

1st hit was just 2 to 3 in front when I was eyeing another one further out. Strike fast but too bad no hookset so lure flew back, luckily past me. I thought to myself, "That's it!, gonna be zero today". At this spot, if you have a snakehead take and didn't land it, you won't have another, zero-fighter is almost for sure.

However I continue as you don't need catches to enjoy fishing, somemore I just arrived. Less than 5 casts later still same area, SPLASH!!. My lure got hit! Wow, very lucky, you don't get 2nd chance everyday. Strike! Strike!..retrieve a few rounds, check drag, strike again, crank a few more rounds, adjust drag again and strike again. Can't remember how manys I striked but for sure a lot. Feeling satisfied, I switched on my camcorder, checked that it's recording and got ready my lip grip, all the while fighting the fish trying not to lose it.

Fight was 7 to 8 mins as fish was a bottom-hugger and pales greatly from 7kg queen not long ago but still a decent fish. 3.4kg on the grip scale.

Released.

UPDATE 18 MARCH: Video added

Today got my all-time best :>>, all previous catches so far really are child's play, no fight!

Aerial jumps were so high and line peel so far out till I numb numb can't believe. 90% of my line gone, can see spool bottom already! Fight was unexpected(also embarrassingly) long as drag was set low. No doubt I'm a greenhorn on the kiasu kiasi side but what's important is fish landed, no snapped gear nor throw-hook.

Nice kaki also landed another similar sized Queen right after mine released, so double biggie Queens :D Of course he took much shorter time to land it, unlike me almost zero Queenie experience.

Truly my all-time best, 7kg Queen! Lifting it for phototaking and reviving(7min!) it was already very tiring. Fight power is 4 to 6 watermelons combined.

Thanks to kakis for jio, free lure, videotaking, fish landing, phototaking, lunch & company.

All catches released.

Kayak Fishing Asia

Happened earlier this week:

Bad mood so went fishing.

Upon arrival, cast a bit & walk a bit and felt much better even though no catches yet. Fishing is a great remedy! :)

Then got a good fighter mid-size pb! Been quite a while since I had a strong pb. 2nd one was a bit smaller and not as strong but both were pretty aggressive but sitting ducks.

Then I received a wonderful call that my Kayak can be collected next day, heheh. Felt like leaving already but I continued as u never know.

RED PANTIES!! :>>

Cut long story short, watermelon is my 12th, about 5.3kg, one of my strongest melons, highest number of Marlin jumps(3 or 4, usually 1 or 2). Very persistent fighter, almost fooled me into thinking sangkot. Also it pinned my lure on some fixed structure but very very luckily came off when it shook head. VERY LUCKY!

KAYAK!

Mon 8 Feb 10 15:11

:>> :>> :>> :>>
I'm getting a kayak very soon!

I'll be posting tons of pics here soon. If you can't wait you can view them here

Today I got 2 medium peacocks, many small ones and 1 nice watermelon :>>

Both medium pbs were hiding deep so used slow sinking lure to get them. Both are weak fighters but their colours very vibrant. Then I changed lure and hit many small pb, so many till I don't bother to take pics.

Then as I near another lurer, I spotted red panties and so we tag-team. He was using midwater while I used topwater. When my lure crossed them, they turned and looked!...Ho sei lar, got chance! After maybe 10mins stalking our red panties, my lure finally went down, heheh :>> Take was weak but no doubt a toman take. Quickly I strike multiple times on weak drag then tighten a bit.

Fight was so-so, nothing spectacular, a bit of bottom hugging and some mad headshaking. Hookup wasn't fantastic so need be careful when landing. As I got my lipgrip ready, fellow lurer was already standing boga ready. He wasn't able to grip it as hookup was outside mouth. Tried a few times, in the end he hand litfed it with ONE hand! 88| Impressive!

My 11th watermelon, think 4kg plus.

Thanks to fellow lurer for the company, landing the watermelon for me and phototaking.

All were released.

6 tiny peacocks today! Absolutely no fight but boy are they feisty!

Then spotted 2 haruans swimming away hastily in quick succession. Heheh, hiding something? Yes they do! I moved further down to ease their tension. They are very shy if they can see you. Started casting at them some distance away, can't see them so very tempted to move back to check but I resisted. They will swim away if they see me again.

After a couple casts it looks like they are non-takers but suddenly 'BOOMZ!' YES!! that's how you do it! That's how you take a lure. Nice! It's been so long I felt a strong toman/haruan surface take.

Rod bent and hookup seems good. However very quickly it dived into i guess one of it hiding place, a haversack!!! Crafty fish! My lure is now stuck onto the sack!!. A lot of mud/gravel were threw up so I can't see if the haruan was still hooked on. I waited a while and then felt a pull. Yes the fish is hooked onto my lure which is hooked onto the sack. By now, the mud/gravel had settled considerably so I can see the fish, mouth wide open body twisting to shake off the hook. I quickly reach for my lip grip but too late!! Just as I lower myself to grip it, it shook off!

They are really sly crafty fish, Never landed one so far!! But I'm glad I got a explosive surface and my lure is still with me.

All released.

Decent catch

Thu 17 Dec 09 20:30

Didn't fishing much lately as busy with some stuff.

As it's bee raining lately so I went USR as I feel got better chance. Upon arrival saw a pack of small peacock basses swimming around. Too bad my lure failed to entice them. On BH rig did entice a small toman to strike however it only bite a little off the tail no hookup.

Move around a little and got a take on my gulp. Classis toman take, rig went down then line went slack a bit I thought threw hook or line burst. Lucky still there, fish must had swam towards me instead of away. Striked a couple of times to set the hook firmly. By now the fish had realised something was wrong and were pulling hard. Did a marlin tarpon jump, thrilling to see. Decent fight for its size and landed after about 2 to 3 mins.

Forgot to bring lip grip so had to use plier to land instead.

Thanks to fellow angler for phototaking.

Fish was released.

Small toman

Mon 23 Nov 09 20:03

Weather cleared a little but still very little fish activity.

Lucky to get this. Fight was relatively decent for it's size.

I striked hard many times as BH rig had too many threw-hooks lately. Luckily the hookup was very good so I may had overdone a bit. But the big ones you should never give mercy, especially lately with their weak takes.

My 10th watermelon!

Mon 16 Nov 09 20:21

Lately had quite a few misses lately which should had converted into landings :>

Today finally got it! :>> :>> My 10th watermelon, finally I'm in double digits. Really had to work extra hard for this one.

Not the prettiest I had but still a beauty, about 4.8kg on grip.

Had 3 weak charges before finally converted to one solid hookup.

Take was weak, fight also weak but unexpectedly it executed one marlin/tarpon style aerial jump which unfortunately wasn't captured by my HD cam.

No complains, I'm happy. :p

Fish was released. Thanks to 2 indians for the phototaking.

Good fishing!!

Thu 22 Oct 09 22:22

Had my 1st Giant Herring today! They are not strong fighters but great jumper and hook throwers. Threw hook 5 or 6 time, landed only one. They were fun to lure.

After that, went freshwater and had 3 misses within an hour. No catch but still pretty thrilling.

Recapture!

Mon 19 Oct 09 22:18

YES they do! They do return to their young!

Today's catch is a recapture. It was caught previously about a week ago. The patterns, head scars, fins tear, weight all match.

All the while I been wondering if they will return to their young. YES they do! At least for this one. Am happy it didn't fell into da-pao-ster hands all this while! :>> :>> :>>

Got her on her 1st take, no bobos, weak take though.

Hookup was poor, could had lost her. Hard time lip gripping.

Also for the 1st time I saw toman babies schooling together with pb babies with mama or papa toman guarding.

No videos as not well taken.

Very recent saltwater ops gave me 2 burst line, no mood to write actually.

But have to write because this toman gave me 15mins fight. My longest fighter.

This 4.5kg toman took my BH rig as usual, nothing spectacular. But after that he lun at the bottom for 15mins at least!!! It was so freaking long I thought I had a monitor lizard and worrying what to do next. I have no idea how to dehook a monitor lizard. The wait was so long, weather so hot that I sat down on the grass waiting for him to run out of air. 1st time I sit down while fighting a fish, keke. Finally no resistance and crank him up like a pieace of paper. Half-dead when brought him up. Released him, very weak, don't know make it or not.

Then I didn't stop, went for watermelons. This one bobo BH rig at least 2 times. My 7th watermelon, 5kg plus on the grip. Fight only 3 to 4 mins. I think this fellow threw hook because I felt sudden loss in line tension but so sway hook back bottom of mouth. No release pics or vids as around me were thai and prc da-paoster. This one when released shoot off like a missile.

Which fish more chio? I still like watermelons more.

No videos as not well taken.

Thanks to thai baiters for photos & videos taking.
